1620 Will of Catherine Clifton

In the name of God Amen The thirtieth daye of October Anno d[omi]ni 1620 And in the eighteenth yerars of the raiyne of our Soveraigne Lord James by the grace of God kinge of England France and Ireland defender of the faith I Catherine Clifton of [Botoms?] in the parish of yeavell in the countie of Somersett widdowe havinge beene sicke of body yet of perfect and sounde memorie Blessed be god for it) doe make this my last will and testament in writinge in manner and forme following First and principally I doe bequeath my soule into the hands of Allmightie god my Creator and of his blessed sonne Jesus Christ my Redeemer And of the holy Ghoste my Comforter humbly beseechinge that blessed Trinitye to p[ar]don & forgive me all my synnes through the [presiant?] bloud sheddinge of Jesus Christ my [only?] Saviour and Redeemer My body I bequeath to be buried either in Church or church yard in that parrish wheresoever I shall depart this transitory life Item I give and bequeath unto poore people of Sougth Petherton xx [20 - abbreviation either pence of shillings] Item I give unto the poore of that parrish where I shall depart this life xx [20 - abbreviation either pence of shillings] I give & bequeath unto my brother [Cumfry?] Ayshe a ringe of gold of xx [20 - abbreviation either pence of shillings] And to his sonne John Ayshe dwellinge with my sister Tollard xxxx [40 - abbreviation either pence of shillings] Item I give & bequeath unto my Sister [Ciscell?] Phelpes a ringe of gold of xx [20 - abbreviation either pence of shillings] and my cloth [word illegible] gowne with the kirtle [a woman's gown or outer petticoat] and wastcoate thereunto belonginge Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Phelpes youngest sonne John Phelpes three pounds Item I give unto my Cosen Elizabeth Phelpes my sister Phelpes oldest daughter three pounds  Item I give and bequeath unto my Cosen MaryePhelpes five pounds in money and my best feather bedd furnished with all things thereunto belonginge and eight silver spoons Item I give and bequeath unto my Cosen Anne {helpes three pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Magdalen Phelpes three pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen [Isoke?] Phelpes three pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Ciscill Phelpes three pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Thomas Phelpes being my godson tenn pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my Sister Sarawe Pennchard a ring of gold of twenty shillings my cloth gowne w[i]th it Trymed w[i]th gold and silver lace my cloake [savegard?] and hood Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Pennchard my goddaughter five pounds Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Anne Pennchard twenty shillings Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Mary Pennchard twenty shillings Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Bridgett Pennchard twenty shillings Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen William Pennchard a ringe of gold of tenn shillings Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Richard Pennchard twenty shillings I give and bequeath unto my cosen John Pennchard twenty shillings I give and bequeath unto my Sister Jane Pollard a ringe of gold of twenty shillings & my gowne kirtle and wastcoate of Phillipp and [Cheney?] printed Item I give & bequeath unto my cosen Lewis Pollard forty shillings Item I give & bequeath unto my cosen Anne Pollard forty shillings Item I give and bequeath unto my cosen Dorothy Pollard forty shillings Item I give & bequeath unto my cosen Garthredd Pollard fortie shillings My will is that if any of my Sister Phelpes children shall happen to dye before they receave their legacie Then my will is that those legacies shallbe equally divided amongst the rest of my Sister Phelpes children and soe likewise for my Sister Pennchard children And in like manner for my Sister Pollards children Item I give & bequeath unto Mary Molton [word illegible] my servant forty shillings Item I give & bequeath unto Jane [Stownt?] my sister Phelpes servant five shillings Item my will is that all these legacies w[hi]ch I have given by this my will shalbe paid by my Executor within sixe monthes w[hi]ch he [dous?] owe me uppon bond by an agreement to be paid [pute?] of Nottinghamshire And the rest of my legacies within twelve months after such time as my Executor shall recover other moneys due unto and uppon bonds from John Clifton likewise The rest of all my goods and Chattells not given by this my will I give and bequeath unto my brother in lawe John Phelpes whome I ordaine constitute and make my sole Executor of this my last will and testament And for the better performance thereof I doe appointe my lovinge brother in law Mr John Penchard and Mr William Pyncombe to be the Overseers of this my last will and testament In witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale even the daye and yeare abovewritten In the presence of us whose names are underwritten
