1652 will of Andrew Everdon

Husbandman

 

In the name of God Amen The sixth day of November in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand sixe hundred fiftie two I Andrew Everdon of the parish of Yevell in the County of Somerset husbandman being weak of bodie but of perfect mynde and memory thankes be given to Allmighty God doe make and ordayne this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following first I recommend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Creator and redeemer hopeing through the merritts of Jesus Christ my Redeemer to have full and absolute remission of all my sinnes and be made partaker of the heavenly [wyse?] And my bodie I committ and leave to the Earth from whence it came to be buried in a decent manner in Christian buriall Alsoe I will and doe hereby appointe that Anne my now wife shall have the house wherein I now live in Hindford with all the goods and houshold stuff therein now being (except all the Corne and implements of husbandrie To hold and enioye [that is, enjoy] the same soe longe tyme as shee shall remayne my widdowe and noe longer Alsoe in case my sayd wife be now with Child then I give and bequeath to such child or children as shee now [goeth?] with to each of them Tenn pounds but in case shee shall by Gods holye have but one child then I give to such one child Twenty pounds to be paid to my Executor in trust hereafter named to and for the use of such child at the end of seaven yeares and to be from thenceforth by them imployed to and for the best advantage of such Child All the rest of my goods and chattells not formerly given nor bequeathed (my debts paid and funerall Expences discharged) I give and bequeath unto my two children Andrew Everdon and James Everdon to be equally devided betweene them when they or either of them shall attayne unto the full age of one and twenty yeares And in the meane tyme my will is and I doe hereby declare that Anne my sayd wife shall have the tuition and breeding up of my sayd Children soe longe tyme as shee shall remayne my widdowe and noe longer and to have sufficient allowance for the same out of such estate as shall please God to bless mee with at the tyme of my decease But my will further is And I doe hereby further declare that in case my sayd wife shall marrie then my Executors in trust hereafter named shall have the tuition and breeding up of my sayd Children as well now borne or to be hereafter Borne of the bodie of my sayd wife And my will further is And I doe hereby further declare that if any of my aforesayed childe or children borne or now unborne shall departe this life before such child shall accomplish the full age of one and twenty yeares then such childs portion shall remayne and be unto the other of my aforesayd sonnes liveing And I doe hereby nominate and appoint my lovinge brother James Everdon and my trusty and wellbeloved friends Christopher Hartewell and John Mitchell to be Executors in trust of this my last will and Testament [several words illegible] [harts?] to see this my last will and testament performed in all things according to the true intente and meaning hereof they having and allowing unto themselves full allowance as well of their Expenditure and alsoe of their labour in the behalfe to be taken upon yeilding up of their or one of their Accompts In witness whereof I have hereunto set my marke to each sheete of this my will the day and yeare aforesayd hereby revoaking all former wills by me made

This Will was proved at Westminster the eighteenth day of July in the yeare of our Lorde God one thousand sixe hundred fiftie three before the Judges for probate of Wills and graunting of Administrations appointed by an Act or Parliament entitled an Act of Parliament probate of Wills and graunting of Administrations by the Oathes of James Everdon the brother of the deceased and Christopher Hartewell and John Mitchell the Executors therein named To whome Administration of all and singular the goods chattells and debts of the sayd deceased which any manners [word illegible] concerne the same will was graunted and committed by being first legally sworne by virtue of a Commission in that behalfe issued forth well and truely to Administer the same
