1748 will of George Butcher

In the Name of God Amen I George Butcher of Yeovil in the County of Somerset Glover being weak of Body but of a sound and disposing Mind and memory thanks be given to Almighty God for the same Do make this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I give devise and bequeath all that part of the Messuage or Dwelling House wherein I now live with the Shop Outhouses Garden and Backside thereunto belonging scituate and being in Yeovil aforesaid unto Catherine my Wife for and during the Term of her natural Life And from and immediately after her decease I give devise and bequeath the same (Except the Little Chamber over the parlour) unto my Grandson William Windsor his Heirs and Assigns forever I also give unto the said William Windsor my Glovers press and Book Shop Boards and all other the Tools belonging to the said Trace of a Glover and likewise the Bed Bedstead Curtains and all things thereto belonging in the Hall Chamber I also give unto the said William Windsor Twenty pounds in Money to be paid him by Executrix hereinafter named within Twelve Months after my decease and Twenty pounds more to be paid him within Twelve Months after the decease of my said Wife together with my Furnace I give all that other part of my said Messuage or Dwelling adjoining to that part of the said House wherein I now Dwell and now in the possession of Thomas Brain together with the Little Chamber over the Parlour and the Outhouses and backsides thereto belonging unto my Grandson Thomas Windsor his Heirs and Assigns forever together with the Sum of Thirty pounds to be paid him within Six Months after he shall have Attained his Age of One and Twenty Years or within Six Months after my said Wives decease if she shall happen to be then living. I give and devise all that my Messuage or Dwelling House with the Garden and Backside thereunto belonging with the Appurtenances scituate and lying on Addlewell within the parish of Yeovill aforesaid and now in the possession of John Evans unto my Grandson George Windsor his Heirs and Assigns forever I give and devise all that my other Messuage or Dwelling House with the Garden and Backside thereunto belonging scituate and being on Addlewell aforesaid and now in the Tenure of Thomas Cooper unto my Grandson John Windsor his Executors Administrators and Assigns for all the residue of the Term which I shall have therein to come and unexpired I also give unto the said John Windsor I also give unto the said John Windsor the Sum of Forty pounds to be paid him within Six Months after the decease of my said Wife I give to my Daughter Elizabeth Windsor Widow Twenty pounds And to my Daughter Catherine Tinney Wife of William Tinney of Yeovil aforesaid the Sum of Fifteen pounds which said Three several Legacys shall be paid them within Six Months after the decease of my Wife and not before I give unto Betty the Wife of John Slade of Yeovil aforesaid Glove Cutter the Sum of Twenty Pounds to be paid her within Twelve Months after my decease and Twenty five pounds more to be paid her within Six Months after the decease of my Wife I give to my Grandaughters Sarah Windsor and Mary Windsor Forty Five pounds apeice to be paid them as they shall severally attain their respective Ages of One and Twenty years or within Six Months after my Wifes decease if she shall happen to be then living I give unto my Grandson William Tinney Fifty Five pounds To my Grandaughter Mary Tinney Fifty Five pounds and to my Grandaughter Sarah Tinney Seventy Five pounds to be paid them as they shall severally attain their respective Ages of One and Twenty years or within Six Months after the decease of my Wife if she shall happen to be then living I give to my Grandson James Richmond Twenty pounds and to my Grandaughters Betty Richmond and Susannah Richmond Twenty pounds apeice to be paid them within Twelve Months after my decease I also give unto the said Betty Richmond and Susannah Richmond Thirty pounds a peice more to be paid them within Six Months after the decease of my Wife I give unto my Grandaughters Sarah Richmond and Katherine Richmond Forty Five pounds apeice to be paid them as they shall severally Attain their respective Ages of One and Twenty years or within Six Months after the decease of my Wife if she shall happen to be then living And my Will desire and meaning is that the several Legacys so herein before by me given to such of my said Grandchildren as shall not have Attained their respective Ages of One and Twenty years at the decease of my said Wife shall within Three Months after her said decease be paid into the hands of my Cousins John Boucher of Yeovil aforesaid Mercer and Edward Boucher of the same place Glove Dyer In Trust that they and the Survivor of them do and shall from time to time place out the same at Interest on such Security or Securitys as they can get for the same and pay over the Yearly Interest and Produce of the respective Legacys so to them hereinbefore given towards the Maintenance and Education of my said Grandchildren untill they shall severally attain their said Ages of One and Twenty years And in case any or either of my said Grandchildren shall happen to die under the Age of One and Twenty Years and before they become Intitled to the Legacys hereinbefore by me given That then the Legacy of him her or them so dying shall go and be paid to and amongst the Surviving Brothers and Sisters of such Legatee or Legatees so dying as aforesaid share and share alike I give unto George Cook Son of my Grandaughter Mary Cook deceased the sum of Ten pounds to bind him an Apprentice Also all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate Stock in Trade Goods and Chattels of what nature or kind soever not hereinbefore by me given I give devise and bequeath unto the said Katherine my Wife whom I do hereby make full whole and sole Executrix of this my Will hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this only to be my last Will and testament In Witness whereof I the said George Butcher to this my Will contained in Two Sheets of paper to the First Sheet whereof I have set my Hand and to the last my Hand and Seal this Fourth day of March in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Eight

This Will was proved at London the Twenty Seventh day of September in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Nine before the Right Worshipfull John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper of Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath of Catherine Butcher Widow the Relict of the said deceased and sole Executrix named in the said Will to whom Administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased was granted being first sworn by Commission duly to Administer
