1755 will of Reverend John Tucker
Clerk in Holy Orders
In the Name of God Amen
I John Tucker of
Yeovill in the
County of
Somerset Clerk
do make this my
last Will and
Testament in
manner following
my Body I desire
may be decently
and Privately
interred in the
Chancel of
Yeovil aforesaid
and as to my
Worldly Effects
I dispose
thereof as
followeth first
I give and
devise all my
lands Tenements
and
Hereditaments
with their
Appurtenances
both in
possession and
Revertion to
James Hooper of
Yeovill
aforesaid
Gent[leman] and
Rob[er]t Tucker
of Puriton in
the said County
Gent[leman] my
Brother and the
Survivor of them
and the Heires
and assigns of
such Survivor
forever In trust
that they the
said James
Hooper and
Robert Tucker
and the Survivor
of them and the
Heires and
Assigns of such
Survivor hall
Mortgage or Sell
and dispose of
the said Lands
or any part
thereof for the
payment of all
my just Debts
and Legacys and
such of the said
Lands and
Hereditaments as
shall remain
unsold I give
and devise unto
my Son John
Tucker his Heirs
and Assigns
forever Whereas
by virtue of a
Settlement made
on my first Wife
I have a power
to dispose of a
Leasehold Estate
called Durstons
situate in
Puriton
aforesaid and
also to another
Leasehold Estate
consisting of
three Several
Closes of Meadow
or Pasture
Ground
containing by
Estimation
thirteen Acres
more or less
Situate in
Hardington in
the said County
to such Child or
Children
begotten on the
Body of my said
Wife as I should
by my last Will
and Testament
direct and
appoint and also
to dispose of
the Sum of eight
hundred pounds
to my Younger
Children in such
shares and
proportions as I
should by my
Will also direct
and appoint Now
I do by this my
last Will and
Testament
Pursuant to the
said Settlement
give all the
said Leasehold
Estate called
Durstons with
the
Appurtenances
and also my
right Title and
Interest
whatsoever which
I have therein
and thereto unto
my Son Thomas
Tucker his
Executors
Administrators
and Assigns also
I give unto my
Son Thomas
Tucker four
hundred pounds
Part of the said
Sum of eight
hundred Pounds
also I give unto
my Daughter
Elizabeth now
the Wife of
[blank] Proctor
Gentleman the
Sum of four
hundred Pounds
the remaining
part of the said
Sum of eight
hundred pounds
also I give unto
my Son Thomas
Tucker the
further Sum of
five hundred
Pounds to be
paid unto him at
the age of
Twenty one years
and my Will is
that during his
Minority he
shall receive
the Interest of
the said Sum of
five hundred
Pounds at and
after the rate
of four Pounds
by the
hundred by the
year also I give
unto the said
James Hooper and
Robert Tucker
their Executors
Administrators
and Assigns the
Sum of Seven
hundred Pounds
In Trust for my
said Daughter
Elizabeth to be
by them placed
out at Interest
and the yearly
Interest to be
paid unto her to
and for her sole
and separate use
notwithstanding
her Coverture
and my Will is
and I do hereby
direct that her
Receipt shall be
a sufficient
discharge for
the same and my
Will further is
and I do hereby
will and direct
that the said
Sum of Seven
hundred Pounds
shall remain at
Interest and the
Yearly Proceed
thereof shall be
paid to my said
Dau[ghte]r as
aforesaid until

space] Proctor
her Husband
shall make a
Settlement upon
her and her
Issue in such a
manner and for
such Uses and
Purposes as the
said James
Hooper and
Robert Tucker
their Executors
Administrators
and Assigns
shall approve of
not only for the
said Sum of
Seven hundred
pounds but also
for the said Sum
of four hundred
Pounds before
given to her but
if no such
Settlement shall
be made on my
said Daughter
and her Issue
That then and in
such case the
said Sum of
Seven hundred
Pounds shall be
divided amongst
such Children as
she shall have
by her said
Husband but if
she hath no
Child or
Children by him
and shall
survive him then
the said Sum of
Seven hundred
pounds shall go
and remain to my
said Daughter
her Executors
Administrators
and Assigns But
if my said
Daughter shall
not Survive her
said husband
leaving no Issue
behind her then
the said Sum of
Seven hundred
Pounds shall go
and remain to my
said Son John
Tucker his
Executors
Administrators
and Assigns also
I give all that
said Leasehold
Estate situate
in Hardington
aforesaid unto
my said Son John
Tucker his
Executors
Administrators
and Assigns also
I give unto my
Sister Joanna
Gardner the sum
of Fifty Pounds
and Whereas Ann
my beloved Wife
is in her own
right so
handsomely
Provided for it
is not in my
Power to offer
her any thin
worthy her
Acceptance
Therefore I give
all the rest
residue and
remainder of my
Goods Chattels
Leasehold
Estates and
Personal Estate
whatsoever not
hereinbefore
disposed of unto
the said James
Hooper and
Robert Tucker
their Executors
Administrators
In trust to sell
and dispose
thereof for and
towards the
Payment of my
just Debts and
Legacys and what
shall remain
after my just
Debts and
Legacys are Paid

said Son John

Guardians of my

have renounced
as Well the
Execution
thereof as
Letters of
Administration
with the said
Will annexed of
the Goods of the
said deceased he
having been
first sworn by
Commission duly
to administer
