1769 will of John Martin

I John Martin of Yeovil in the County of Somerset Glover being of sound Memory do this Twenty third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following. First I commend my Soul to God through Christ and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executrix hereinafter named. First I give and bequeath unto Mary my well beloved Wife all my personal Estate in Money Bills Bonds Chattels and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever for and during her natural Life And from and immediately after the decease of Mary my said Wife I give and bequeath all that my said personal Estate in Money Bills Bonds Chattels and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever in manner and form following. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Susannah the sum of Thirty pounds Also I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary the sum of Thirty pounds which two Legacies my will and desire is shall be paid immediately after the death of Mary my Wife by my four sons viz. Thomas William Joseph and John And as for the rest and residue of all my Effects whatsoever and wheresoever at the death of Mary my Wife I give and bequeath the same unto my aforesaid four sons Thomas, William, Joseph and John to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike And my Will further is that if any or either of my aforesaid Children shall happen to die before Mary my Wife then my Will and meaning further is that his her or their share so dying shall be and remain for the sole Use and benefit of the children of him her or they so dying Equally to be divided amongst them and to be paid as aforesaid. Lastly I do hereby make and appoint Mary my Wife my full whole and sole Executrix of this my Will, hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this to be my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I the said John Martin to this my last Will and Testament have set my Hand and Seal the day and year above written.

This Will was proved at London the twenty second day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine before the Right Worshipful George hay Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Mary martin Widow the Relict of the deceased and sole Executrix named in the said Will to whom Administration was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased she having been first sworn by Commission duly to administer
