1812 Lease - Chequers/1&3 Princes St
The 1812 lease of the Chequers alehouse and 1&3 Princes Street
This is a lease, dated 12 July 1812 for the Chequers alehouse in Huish and the property today known as 1&3 Princes Street ("the Messuage or Tenement and Dwellinghouse situate near the Angel Inn"), made between the three brothers Joseph Watts, Samuel Watts the Younger and Edward Watts of the fist part and Thomas Bullock and James Glyde of the second part. It should be noted that Thomas Bullock was the Watts brothers' uncle and James Glyde had married their sister Mary.

of four parts

mentioned to be

Joseph Watts of

Samuel Watts the

same place

the said Samuel
Watts and Joseph
Watts in trust
for him were or
one of them was
seized in Fee &

them was seized
in Fee & well
entitled unto

Dwellinghouse

premises therein

formerly called
the Chequers Inn
situate in
Yeovil aforesaid

the said Joseph
Watts & Edward
Watts In Trust
for him were or
one of them was
seized in Fee &
well entitled
unto the Garden
plott & premises
therein &
hereinafter
described
adjoining the
last mentioned

also reciting
that the said
Samuel Watts was
possessed of or
well entitled
unto the Garden
plott adjoining
the first
mentioned
Dwellinghouse
thereinafter
mentioned for
the remainder of
a certain term
of two thousand
years And
further reciting
that the said
Samuel Watts had
then some time
since promised
and agreed to
sell & convey
the last
mentioned Garden
plott and first
mentioned
Messuage &
premises
adjoining unto
him the said
Joseph Watts who
was then in the
possession
thereof and had
made certain
improvements
thereon but no
Money had been
paid or any
contract or
conveyance then
been made And
also reciting
that the said
Samuel Watts and
Joseph Watts for

the sum of one
thousand nine
hundred & fifty
pounds had
agreed to sell
convey & assure
all their
Estates rights
and Interests in
all the above

Gardens plotts &

the said Edward
Watts should
convey his trust
