Penny's Yard

Penny's yard

off Addlewell Lane

Penny’s Yard was listed in the 1851 census as being at the end of Addlewell Lane.

It comprised just two dwellings; in the first the husband, 38-year old John Mainsford, was a glove cutter while his wife Mary was a dressmaker and their 16-year old son Charles was a leather dresser.

In the second dwelling William Duck was a leather dresser, his wife Mary a glove sewer, their 10-year old son Edwin was a glove cleaner and there were also three other children ‘at home’.
