The Borough
I could find very little information on this, the first Cross Keys Inn (marked as 'J?' on the 1886 map below), other than it was located in the Borough during the 18th century. The location on the map below is therefore a bit of a guess.
An entry in the Burials Register of St John's church for 4 May 1768 records the burial of "Williams, a Sojourner at ye Cross Keys".
The licensees span from at least 1735 until 1785. It must have finally closed before about 1830 as the name was assumed by a new Cross Keys Inn in Belmont / Park Street from about that time.
